So not too long ago, I played through Dark Souls on ps3. I had a surprisingly good time, though much of it was spent experiencing unimaginable terrors. Well, I decided I’d sketch some memorable moments. This was when our hero first leaves his cell in the undead asylum. Hope you dig it!

Gyroman, King of the skies! (Mega Man 5 Remix by Gerald Kaye, Tekkaxe)

Wow... so a lot has happened since my last update. Getting married really keeps you busy X_X. Heh, yeah. A lot of stuff has happened on the art front, and on the life front, with the biggest of which being that on june 18th, I got married to an amazing and lovely woman named Amber. Us two planning the event took up soooo much of our time and attention. But we had a blast and are now settling into life-life. I've been staying on top of my Drawing/Music game, but unfortunately wasn't able to get things posted like I'd have liked to. Back now though, and it's good to be.

So if you guys have been following me for any amount of time, I'm sure you may have heard me mention in some form that I'd like to tackle a Gyroman remix, from Mega Man 5: my FAVORITE mega man game. Yes, 2 and 3 are amazing. But 5's music, along with it's visual style and everything, are so much cooler to me (heh, disagree? please leave a comment, but try to keep the flame-levels to a 1, or 2). And my favorite song of the who shebang? Gyroman's.

So I finally was able to do a remix of his song that I am pleased with. It's quite a bit of a challenge, ya see. With some songs, they're so well done and the way they were executed is so appealing that you are almost left at a loss for what to do to possible add to the experience. Do you just slap a kick-drum on it and up the tempo, call it a day? Or do you just turn it into a slow jam? What elements should you pull out and highlight? How far should I stray from the original arrangement? Will I lose all of those things that I love about the original? It was quite the endeavor, but I managed to make something I was satisfied with, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Composed via piano-roll and step-sequencer in FL Studio 10, my DAW of choice, and mixed/mastered there as well. The lovely animation that accompanies it was done in flash CS4. I mashed them together using Adobe Premier Pro.

So the other weekend, I was hanging out with Gravity Man. He ate up all my bagels and then asked whose track i'd be remixing next. I told him that I was stuck trying to figure something out for Gyro Man, and so he seized that opportunity and coerced me into doing his theme song. I couldn't refuse ( I was already out of bagels...who knows what other sinister things he had in store for me). Then he made me shoot a music video for it.

Heh, so first off, THANK YOU all my supporters out there. It's been a while since i've uploaded, but i've definitely been busy, creating many songs since my last post. I know a lot of you get bored with still images, and so I wanted to make sure that whatever I uploaded next would be as fun to watch as it is to listen to. I wish I could've had the images perfectly synched with the music, but I had already completed the song, and the tempo was a number that didn't play well with the framerate I needed. Hopefully next time, the song and the music will fit better.

So this was done in FL10 over the course of a few weeks. I love Mega Man 5. As AMAZING as MM2 and 3 are, 5 is a personal favorite. My real goal is to do Gyro Man's song and then fly off into the clouds on a flock of seagulls, but until I can figure out what i'd like to do with it, I'll do other characters' songs to tide me over. Clan Skywhale Unit-05: Dragoon

So in celebration of me finally getting my computer back up and running (Battleship GK: Pride of the Geraldian fleet, who sadly was out of commission for almost 3 months), I did this piece....from some other computer X_X. Yeah, I wasn't at mine at the time, and so I had to make do. So this is the precursor to a few I want to do. FFTA is one of my all-time favorite games. Thus, I figure it'd be cool if I drew my squad. First I'll pump out these single-sketches, then cap it off with a group-shot.

The Bangaa Dragoon: so awesome. Unlike FFTactics on ps1/psp, the dragoon in FFTA was a beast. Dude was crazy useful (and no-charge jump command definitely rocked). And then on top of his utility, he looked awesome! Such a great unit.

Complete Nonsense: Final Fantasy VII Odin

So me and Tim at work got into this discussion about Final Fantasy's Odin, and how he's got an insane horse with 6 legs... The problem here is that it has 4 legs in the front and 2 in the back X_X. Like, that's utter nonsense! So i figured, that it most be really front-heavy, yenno? Riding on a tilt. And then Tim jumps in that it's like he's in a constant state of doing a nosegrind....or a manual.

...And so here we are.

Adventure: A piece for the Voices for Umoja art show

GK here with a brief update. So, last weekend, there was a fundraiser/gallery show held by the folks at Voices for Umoja ( http://voicesofkisumu.blogspot.com/2010/09/raising-voices-art-benefit-event.html ). They simply said "submit stuff, yo" and didn't really set any parameters as far as I was aware, so I thought I'd have a little fun with it. All proceeds went to fund future community projects and whatnot. I'm amped to share that my piece sold! It was great to hear that. Anyway, here's a low-res version of the piece that I did, just for your viewing pleasure! (I originally did it at like, 800 DPI just because I could.)

Wow.....So it appears that the last time I posted was in 1983 or something? Well, let's fix that!

It sure has been a while, and a WHOLE lot has happened between march and today, August 20something 2010. It has been one heck of an adventure. So where have I been? Well, I am now working for Hasbro's new animation studio as a Production Assistant on one of the most awesome shows that you'll be seeing in a few months. It has been an amazing experience thus far, filled with amazing people, and I thank God for this amazingly awesome bit of amazingness.

I've met some really amazing people and I've had more knowledge dropped on me in the last few months than you can shake a stick at....not that you should be shaking sticks at things. It's really dangerous, yenno. Anyway, it's time for me get back to the posting game. I thought I'd go moderately out (somewhere between 'all out' and 'not at all out') on this one to show you a bit of a process for a piece I did over the last few days! Let's get crackin!:

So I was pondering one day and came up with an idea for a sequel/spinoff of sorts for Skellobusters. The WIP name is "ACE Unit", a sort of successor to the Skellobuster team. It's a 3 (wo)man squad that's out to prove themselves. I had their visuals in my head for a while now and attempted roughs of em at various points, but I thought I'd nail down something for the female of the team now. So, the first thing I did for this piece was fire up a playlist of "Da T.R.U.T.H"'s "Open Book" and "The Big Picture" (sidenote: 'You Made' slaps so very hard), bust out a pencil and paper, and got crackin':

Next, I started cleaning up the image, trying to go for nice dynamic lines. At this point, I also fixed some errors I noticed in a few places and nailed down some stuff that I noted as a scribble in the rough stage:

After that, I figured, "The girl needs clothes." Yes, she does. I fiddled around here until I came up with something I felt worked for her. The look and feel of 'ACE Unit' was always intended to be pretty casual, wearing stuff that you'd almost be able to spot in everyday life, but plussed up with a few things here and there specific to the character. Thus, at this point, I was cruising around a bit on fashion blogs and google images just looking at ideas for outfits and outfit elements. I kept things simple here in the 'normal clothes' stage, except for her contact-suit she wears underneath:

And then in her 'Hero Mode', I gave her a leather jacket, her mask, and her kicks:

Color Time. I messed around with colors for a long while before finding something I felt worked. I originally was going to do something more purple and red, but then this came out. Just base colors at this point, nothing fancy:

Finally, the pretty stage.I did a light/shadow pass for her normal and Hero modes. This took a bit longer than it should have because in the inking stage, I mistakenly used a brush that had Anti-Aliasing/feathering going on.... Thus, I had to do a lot of babysitting to maintain the look of things. Pleeeeease dont make the same mistake I did if you are hoping to fill areas quickly. Anyway, just cellshaded this bad-boy real simple like:

...then the part you guys don't see: me outputting a 1920x1080 wallpaper for my rig at home ^_^. Lol. Good times.

So I finally came up with a design for Tekkaxe. For a name I use so much, it's about time I finally drew the guy.

For those of you that don't know the story, Tekkaxe was an old character from an old story I had ages ago. He wasn't even the main character in the story. Anyway, I ended up scrapping it because I no longer had/have the same aesthetic as Middle-School Aged me, and also, the story just flat out didn't work. I'd have to seriously rethink it before it wasn't lame.

Anyway, the name stuck with me though, though the imagery didn't. And now, I gave him a body again.

So this was a Photoshop CS4 jam on the Cintiq, over the course of...yesterday and today, minus the laundry run I made.

On another note, I finished the song I was working on. Coming soon.

Legend 001

Last summer, i needed some pens. Michael's, being the awesome store that they are, had recently given me a "buy 1 get 1 50% off" coupon and had no restrictions at all on how you used it. Thus, I bought some cheapo $3 faber-castell "manga pens" and then used the coupon to get some 20something-dollar prismacolor markers for half price. Score!

Anyway, I still used and use the cheapo-pens, because they turned out to be really quite good. And why let good pens go to waste?

So last night, before going to bed, I did a sketch of Legend from SKB on a 4x6 piece of bristol. Yeah, I went all traditional, just for a night. It took about an hour. Then I scanned that bad-boy in on Mr. "Lide"-y Mc"200"pants.

Legend's one of my favorite characters from another story I'm working on. There's still so much more to figure out about him, which makes it cool and fun.

Well, back to storyboarding.

My mental image of "megaman" draws to mind many feelings and elements. There's the masterful soundtrack, the awesome character design, the delightful barrage of colors and shapes, and then one other prominent element that rattles around my head and occupies my attention: the elaborately imaginative, and yet simultaneously nondescript locations of ambiguous tactical significance: Why bubbleman holes up in a spike-lined maze at the bottom of the ocean surrounded by robotic shrimp; or why flashman saw fit to take refuge in a gigantic refrigerator; or why it was considered necessary plot out the path to one's lair/base with the inclusion of platforms that give way regularly; and giant towers of piping, constructed into space ladders that hang miles above the earth, are beyond me. They do, however, look hecka cool.

Anyway, This was a doodle that started a little after 7:00am and then proceeded to become this. All the while, I had the Orchestral Game Concert on continuous play mode. (I think sleep is mad at me, because I haven't been getting any.)

For those that find the tools used to be insightful, this was a piece done entirely in Photoshop CS4 on a Cintiq. Working time about 3 hours.

And for the record, my favorite Robot Master is a tossup between Gyroman and Waveman (their songs rocked). Who's yours?

So when you hear me talk about "Dancin' Machine", this is what I'm talking about. DM is the epic adventure story about two kids and a robot...and another kid....and some old guys.....and....Okay, but it's about two kids and a robot. But what's so special about two kids and a robot? Well, find out in 2010 when the action adventure tale comes to your computer!

Okay, so this one was several hours across paper and CS4. Sketched first the way nature intended, and then inked and colored in Photoshop, along with some help from Wacom.

Girl From "Three-Group"

Alrite team! GK here with an update. It's great to be posting! Exclamation point!

So today we have 'Girl' from "Three-Group", my early in dev tale of 3 ninjas traveling together in a group...of 3. This started out as a sketch while chilling at a friend's house and evolved into this. I'd say total, about 10 hours from sketch to ink to color.... But that's a really bad estimate, because it doesn't take into account that it was me working over a few days and then the few breaks I did or didn't take. It may have been much more than 10 hours....But however long it was, most of it had me listening to this AWESOME snakeman remix on OCRemix.org. That thing SLAPPED sooooo hard. My neighbors must've thought I was having a serious rave or something (well, there was that, and there was Reach and Sound of Melodies by Leeland...they rock so hard!). Anyway, from .5mm led pencil on printer paper, to Photoshop CS4 for lines and color on my 'Tiq.

I'd say if there was an objective for this one, it'd have to have been to have a nice flow of the lines of her body. I used my arm a lot in this one; not too much wrist action and noodling in that way.

Well, how are you guys planning on spending the holidays? I'll be jamming on up to northern california, and so hopefully I can still post some sketches or other stuff for the little while i'm there. Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

-A master of paths 1 through 77 of the 8.743x10^14 paths of battle, BattleMaster roars with the fury of a thousand warriors! Or rather, 77. I did this to test out my new gear. Sketch with .5mm lead pencil on printer paper, scanned with a Lide200F and then cleaned up and colored in CS4 with Cintiq.

Time: about 2 hours to draw, about 2 hours to ink, about 1 hour to color.
Tools: Pentel GeForce .5mm lead pencil, Canon Lide 20 scanner, Photoshop 6.0, Wacom Graphire 4, Anime Music via WinAmp Classic, Chapstick.

So yeah, I've been drawing quite a bit, but mostly scraps and sketches. I decided i'd do something nice and finished for an "it's been a while..." update. This was a pretty smooth one to do. No real hiccups or problems, as now I think I've a groove. It also seems to go best when I go from paper to digital. Yeah. Fun times.

Dance With Me

So still practicing with what I learned about the digital workflow from that video I watched. This was drawn, inked and colored in Photoshop 6.0, the dinosaur that it is. I used my Graphire 4 tablet and a hard-round brush with the paintbrush tool to rough it out and ink it. Then I used channels to make a clean line layer (thanks to Snakebite's tips and oldschool Polykarbon), selected off of that and paintbucket filled/brush for shadows and hi-lights.

This took around 4 hours. I was doing a bunch of sketches on paper and not really happy with what was coming out. So, I decided to just do something finished in photoshop.

This is the main character from an upcoming project. I kind-of made him a bit too old in this picture, but I'm still working out getting him on model perfectly and whatnot. This image was a nice bit of practice. I'm starting to get more comfortable with working all digitally, though pencil and paper is never going to go away. This was a nice exercise. Still have more to go, but this'll do for now.

SKB Ink Test

Hey there everyone.

Hope everything's well with you all. Things are cool on my end. Getting back into a flow and ramping up to finish a short comic project. In preparation for that, I watched a helpful video on some digital inking techniques by Scott Kurtz from PVP (http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2024758) and made this image to test some stuff out.

Drawing purely digital takes a lot of getting used to. I usually do stuff on paper and then scan it in, clean it up, and then work with it. After watching the video, I was able to think of strategies that would work for me to get a digital workflow going. Scott's tip about roughing on one layer and then inking on a second, in addition to rough color choice and working at a high DPI were all common sense things that completely slipped my awareness. Seeing it in action gave me practical ways to make work work.

So anyway, a SKB pic. Skellobuster, and his mighty hand of might, as he leaps forward annihilatingly to devastate his foes. Annihilatingly is a cool word. Anyway, more art throughout the week.

Justice: B&W

Hey there.

So I've been away for a while. But I wasn't just off doing nothing. It was like this: You know how in an anime or something, like, the hero kinda vanishes for a while and everyone assumes he's dead, only for him to return in a few episodes or the next season with longer, shaggy hair and the ability to wipe out entire solar systems with a wave of his hand? Yeah, It was like that.

So I've been spending some time in the hyperbolic time chamber of art, but will likely make another return voyage. I'll keep this place more lively though on my next journey. I think they allow internet access in the hyperbolic time chamber.

Anyway, so this is a friend of mine, but GK-styled. She had requested that I super-hero her up or whatnot, and I had told her it was coming. So: Ta-da. Expect a color version soon, but it's too late for me to do that tonight/this-morning.

Whew. Sorry for being away so long. I had gotten extremely busy. So, with a slight opening in activity, I wanted to come back with something strong. Meet 'Battle Master 88 Deluxe'. His quest for the Tome of Combat was victorious, and he was blessed with the spirit of battle!! To arms!

Battle Master 88 Deluxe is to be my entry to my friend's crossover fighting game. Let's hope all goes well on that front.

Drawing At Starbucks (1)

So I needed to get out out of the house and decided I'd go to starbucks. Galactic Deer. Whatever. Anyway, when I got there, I proceeded to draw my butt off. I got some pieces I was happy with by the time the afternoon/evening was over. Check 'em out:

First up is Maya, the other lead character in "Dancin' Machine". She's Jay's best friend. Road dawgs for life and all that jazz. Jay got her started dancing when he first became a fanboy of Fon. She grew to love it for her own reasons and strives to dance with excellence.

Next up are some random heads. First is a female rockin' the most beautiful hairstyle known to mankind. Whoever invented that whole mindboggling "imma make it go the other way then go back the other way" thing needs to win the nobel prize in some category. Anyway, while at starbucks, at least 4 different girls came in with variations of that hairstyle. Thus, sketchage.
The next head is a redesign of a character from a middleschool story I had. I wont go in to all the convoluted lovliness that makes him who he is, so lets keep trucking...

Next up is the girl from "Threegroup". I was doing little gesture sketches and came across one that I liked, and as I doodled on top of it, it started to look like her. Thus, I pulled out another sheet of paper and embiggened it.

Lastly, it's another character from "Dancin' Machine". Its a minor character thus far, and currently unnamed. Well...I've been calling him "Adidas Kid". Adidas Kid is a jerk. Look at his face. Don't you just want to smack him? And how dare he go around dancing in flip-flops. I mean, come on. What kind of cocky, arrogant little......Heh, and that's Adidas Kid for ya.

So who's coming with me next time?

Girl Power

It's a quadruple update today (if you count the previous post)!! Celebrate!!!! Let's get things started with the ladies of "Red Lion", "Dancin' Machine" and "Project 'S' ".

First up, is "Black Shadow", from "Red Lion", the hot new action show headed to your HD TV some time in the near-eventually. She's got fierce rivalry going with Red. Legend has it that Red Lion is the strongest, but she's determined to disprove that as simply a myth. She's as dark as the deepest depths of space, yet has a green light that radiates from her body, and green wings of flame. (expect a color version later on). Umm.....Red might be in a little bit of trouble....

Next up, It's "E", from "Dancin' Machine". Emma is Jam's right hand woman, and the real reason why things run so smoothly within FED. Her loyalty is unquestionable and she's got an intense seriousness that makes all of her subordinates walk around as if their surroundings are made of glass, with one misstep resulting in the shattering of everything they hold dear... especially their faces.

Last up is "Her", from " Project 'S' ". This girl was a reserved and generally unnoticed classmate of Tommy's. Tommy saw around town all the time and was intrigued by her though. Maybe it was just that he thought she was so cute. Yet seemed like this girl was constantly somewhere else though, staring at the sky all class long and always by herself. Lately it seems she's been acting wierd, staring at Tommy awkwardly and vanishing at wierd moments. ...And what's with that wierd marking that showed up on her face recently? What could she possibly have to do with "the split"?

Time to Bust Some Skulls

However, some shadiness went down and the group fell from prominence and, for the most part, from existence. He's on a mission to restore his group's good name.

Double Post

Hey Everyone. I'm here with two updates today.

So First off, we have a character concept sketch from "Red Lion". The naming scheme for the characters was (and is) a color, and then the creature. However, this guy is currently going by the name "Sky Whale". It may change in the near future, but I'm digging the design though. The suits are more like anatomy exercises than anything, so you really won't be seeing like, crazy plating and shoulder pads and all that goodness (generally speaking).

And next up, we have this sketch. The idea behind it was that I wanted to make a really cool looking male character. Not the pretty-boy type like Dante from DMC or something, but more the kind of cool that would be in line with Spike from Cowboy bebop. I also wanted him to have a thick, snowboarding-wintery type coat. Maybe I'll go a bit bigger and thicker in a redesign. I kinda went back and forth as to whether or not to make it really furry or not and decided that it'll be fine around the edge of his hood. Lastly, I decided on swords over guns. The main character of Namco X Capcom came to mind for some reason. I really like the longbarreled, geometrically shaped gun that he has, but like that he has that sword-holster where he carries those two swords and what looks like a shotgun. Thus, I settled for a katana and surfboard-sword combo. They too will probably end up getting redesigned into gun-looking swords. Anyway, his name as of now is Buster, though I wanted to call him Wolf. Expect more later.

Its been a long time. Sorry for the absence, all. Where have I been? Well, its a looooong story. We'll handle that another time. Anyway, I come bearing gifts. I was thinking about how this page is called "The Sky Whale", and why my handle is still "Tekkaxe". For those don't know the history, here's the 1 sentence version: Tekkaxe was a character from a story I came up with in middleschool, tried to make sense of in highschool, and then shelved in college. Well, obviously things are quite different now than they were when I was that youngster drawing armor-plated sword-slinging facemask-wearing heroes....okay, things are somewhat different, heh. Anyway, I decided to come up with story that would explain the whole "Sky Whale" "Tekkaxe" thing.

This is one of the characters. He's a young dude that loves watching the sky and always has his digital camera on him and his finger on the trigger. Well, one day he sees something a bit strange in the clouds, and so he heads up to the hilltops to get a better look....

Anyway, I'm back again. I wont stay away so long next time.

Before we go any further, I have some horrible news. Zebra F-301 ultra .07mm black ballpoint, a fine soldier for many a month, has just given up the ghost. He sevred me well for the last, almost half a year. He stuck with me through the loss of his twin brother (sold in two-packs) and even through the great lead pencil revlot of May 2008.

May he rest well....

...Until I buy a pen refill.

So I did this last night with a pretty random blue ballpoint pen I have. It's a Pilot. Funny, 'cuz I used to always carry the really inky pilot precise pens around. Good times. Anyway, I did this right before falling asleep. I slapped a sheet of paper down on the desk and let loose a pic of our hero. Dancin' Machine continues trucking along. Stay tuned. Too Cool For Space.

Dancin' Machine Appears!!

Sorry for being away for so long. It's been a minute. Forgive me, folks. But, i've brought you something really nice. Today's update is the third main-man in my upcoming story.

Meet Dancin' Machine. I'll have to contain my excitement and enthusiasm, because I wanna tell you more about him over time, and of course you'll find out much more about him when the story starts rolling.

Any of you that have been with me since this project's inception/conception may have noticed a change in his look. Well, when Moroni Taylor visited CSUN from Bluesky, I showed him some of my stuff. He liked it, but really encouraged me to put some time into DM's design, to take it beyond generic. I liked the old style, but agreed with him. Thus, where his design is right now is much better, and is capable of much more than his old look. I like the new look much better.

I've been blessed in that a lot of people have responded extremely well to "Dancin' Machine", and some with extremely little to go off of. So it continues, and I hope you guys enjoy what's to come as much as I do.

Dancin' Machine: Concept Work (2)

I'm trying to at least get the concepts down for the main cast in the next week or so. I'll make alterations and stuff later, and make sure the style is cohesive and all that jazz, but i'm tossing out ideas over these next days trying to get something solid.

So this is the female lead for "Dancin' Machine". I'm happy with this design, though i may play around with things some more. I was net cruising for outfit ideas and fell in love with those lil hoodie things girls wear. It seemed like the perfect fit for this girl.

I gotta keep things light, as they have to be able to move around quite a bit in these things. I dunno, I couldnt imagine Lulu (Final Fantasy 10) breakdancing....or climbing stairs for that matter. Get what I mean? That said, light does not = bland. Thus, i jump back and forth between stylish, simplistic, functional, and just flat out cool.

Oh, and the reason theres 2 images though theyre so similar: well, one of em was drawn suuuper small, and the other was drawn taking up a large chunk of 8.5x11 paper.

Aaaaanyway, more to come.

Ive been tossing around ideas and stuff for the main character and the last image is what i'mma roll with for the look and feel of things, at least in terms of the characters. at this restuarant-y place called Jack's Deli. Naw, Jack doesn't own the place, but if he did, perhaps he'd be able to give us discounts.... Anyway, we went there with the intent of drawing, and so we piled our table up with art gear and pens and copics and more pens and paper, and all sorts of good arty stuff. I pulled out that prismacolor and my zebra and threw down as we proceeded to crack eachother up with our own brand of hilarity.

So for the last 4 days, i've been doing smaller sketches gearing up for an illustration I wanna do, and so to break that, I decided i was gonna go bigger, and draw a female. I flipped through my sketches to see if there was anything i wanted to work on that was in line with that, and I stopped on 'ThreeGroup' (my loose way of referring to that pic I did of the ninjas). I figured I'd work her out some more.

I'm still debating the name. A friend of mine's name came to mind, but I didnt wanna just use her name. And then, looking at the image, I was reminded of this beautiful girl I know, and so wanted to use her name, and then was thinking of maybe combining the two... I dunno. More on "ThreeGroup" later.

Yeah, my naming scheme is wierd...I come up with these wierd little nicknames for my various pieces/projects/stories that are catchy in my own world, but end up sticking because they work for whatever reason. Heh, some of you are probably hoping I think of something else before this becomes it.

But yeah, I totally had a blast. Its great to shake up your norm and draw in different environments, and with other artists. It can be a great just chill-and-unwind thing to do.

Early morning pen sketches, done between 7something and 8something, pushing 9. Cloak-Robo and Black Shadow (from Red Lion) were the subjects for the morning. I love Cloak-Robo, though he kinda feels like the maid from Fearless-Griggs's (by Andy Helm). Took a pass at pensketching Black Shadow, came out okay.

Well, the song for the day (ooo, could this be a SkyWhale blog institutioni?!) is "Words Put Together" from FFTA2. Nice lil introspective piano jam. Check it out.

-So my last post was about a week ago or something. I've been drawing this last month, and quite a lot. I didnt really have access to a scanner for most of the month of July, and i dont know what became of most of my artwork, but I've been drawing. Foreals. When I touch down on paper now, it's so fluid and natural feeling, cuz i've been doing it all the time it feels like

So here's three sketches I did today:

one) I really like drawing Tommy, son of Tommy.
two) I was practicing drawing womanly curves, so I drew two takes on "her", from "Project S", though they came out looking more like "Black Shadow" from "Red Lion".

Anyway, yeah, I was on an adventure last month. I'll tell ya about it some time, ya?

-I've been doing a lot of drawing lately. My fire has been blazing brightly concerning things artistic. Too bad this is the only thing I scanned for you guys and girls. This evening and afternnon, i just did a bunch of quick 20 minute sketches and things like that. Kept things rough, just got ideas out. This was the last one for the evening, completed around 9:40 or so.

I like this one, i sorta started feeling their personalities as I finished it. But again, just threw lines on the page and went for the feeling, rather than rendering or anything. Well, i'll have more art for you later.

A cord of three strands isn't easily broken...but a cord of three ninjas isn't easily found.

Armored Girl... Female Gear?

I've been working on this one on-and-off the last few days. So I had 2 main goals with this one. One, I wanted to do some costuming a bit more complicated. I tend to do really really simple outfits for my characters, and I wanted to start pushing it a bit. So, I bandage-wrapped the girl and gave her some armor. Second goal, I really wanted to understand and know what was beneath all that. To have a solid form under it all. I didnt have too much reference, though way later in the process I found an image that was extremely similar to the pose she's doing. Thus, I drew her twice: once without any gear, then i put another sheet of paper on top and started making sure things worked as I clothed her.

Thus, the birth of armor-wearing-girl. And now to play some metal gear....

...It's so wierd playing something you looked at like, half a decade ago and wondered "wow, when will the day come...?" Like, when they first showed off their crazy final fantasy 13 stuff, it was like "wow.........what's it gonna be like?", and then if youre like me, your imagination runs crazy rampant and wild and whatnot. But in the case of MGS4, its just as awesome as I'd imagined it'd be.

Sometimes, oftentimes, i really like drawing with pens. Ballpoint pens. Why? Because what you put down is what you're stuck with. Without the option to erase, caution goes to the wind, 'cuz either you're gonna draw, or you put away that pen and paper and go play you some videogames or somethin'. Anyway, I've been creatively productive lately, a term I first heard from Charles Zembillas and have grown to really appreciate. And not just lately, I've really been drawing. I like drawing. Its fun. Really. And I can do it. Thats even better.

Anyway, in this particular instance, I was pretty tired, but didn't want to make any music. I just finished yet another thing, and just wanted to rest, but wasn't ready for sleep. So, I pulled out the weapon of choice (Zebra F301 ULTRA!!!1!!11!1) and decided to do some sketchin'.

The image is me as a __mon trainer (look closely and you'll see some ___balls attached at the hip) and i'm calling out my lv.93 Swordoceros. He's totally not even constructed properly and with any sort of logic, but I didn't care. I just started putting shapes down and trying to get something a bit dynamic. Thus, Ta-da. Swordoceros is born.

Polling Day#1

So it seems like every semester around finals time, I make a really mellow song... But that's another post. Anyway, My original intent was to draw all 12 or so main characters from the 12 or so stories I've got, and let you all vote on them to see which one I turned into a web-based comic. But, tiredness and time made me only draw 3...and one rests securely within the cover of my binder.

Anyway, so if you've been scouting around my blog for a while, you'll recognize both of these guys. And if you've known me for a while, you'll recognize them a bit more. At the top we have "Red Lion", a story given to me in my slumber. Its an over-the-top action tale about power. And below him, we've got Tommy, leading man in the soon to be re-renamed "Project S", another action tale about a kid trying to get things back to normal.

In terms of style, I guess you could call "Red Lion" gurren lagann and you can call "Project S" Fooly Cooly, only without all the sexual references and much less crazy.

Anyway, this is just the first polling. Just comment on which seems to interest you, and we'll see where this goes.

Episodes 18 and 19 of Evangelion are really strong. Lots of exposition though...but not in a boring way. At least 17. It was a lot of build up to a really nice point and they did a great job. Man, shinji must've been horrified.

Anyway, So I had MS paint open while I was watching, because some parts didn't demand 100% of my attention.

"Red Lion"

So I just started watching Evangelion...OH MAN Asuka has problems. That girl is messed, MESSED up. Like, seriously jacked up. Then I blink for a second, take a breather, and realize that all of the characters have some seriously messed up issues. Man. I'm sorta going backwards here. FLCL talking about maturity and coming of age, though a lil zany. Gurren Lagann talked about manhood and leaving childhood behind, a bit comedic and very awesome. But this.....Man, what the heck was gainax on? That moonstone? They poppin that rare-candy?

Anyway, I did this in class cuz, thank God, I found one of my ballpoint pens. I totally lost almost every single pen I own. All of my zebras: Gone. My other zebras: Gone. The REPLACEMENT zebras I got to replace the zebras that I replaced my original zebras with: Gone!! I was relying on a pushpen Jean gave me, and then I lost that too!....But I found it in my pants pocket, so I totally celebrated on some paper. Its Red Lion.

Prologue time:

This ones a bit more comedic and over the top, sort of in the style of Gurren-Lagann. Anyway, Shadow is her working name. (and I like the 1st one's face more....)

So I was listening to "A Day in the Life of a Gambler" by JigginJonT (before I started listening to "little birdie" by Joe Williams) and man..... He does some amazing stuff on the piano. Like, wow. Head over to OCR right now. He definitely captured the whole 'Charlie Brown' feel that I find so hard to do when i'm not able to do my songs organically like other musicians can.... Its like how in animation, you can lose some stuff when you go strictly pose to pose.

Anyway, I went to an awesome event today where, as the event's name suggested, I was inspired. Inspired to keep pushin. Inspired to make some art. Inspired to keep doin' what I love. Anyway, 3d character animation, yeah that's my focus, but that doesn't mean I abandoned everything else. I'm eternally gonna be a story guy, a characters guy, and a motion guy (as well as a music guy, but vis arts is mah baby.). I'd say as far as visual arts go, that's my big 3. So yeah, i'm really juiced to keep training.

I'm not gonna speak for all artists, but maybe a lot of you can empathize. I can be super super ultra mega critical of my own stuff. I got this stellar goal i'm aimin' for as far as the quality of my own work goes, and so anything short of that and i'm drop-kicking my clone. But yeah, it really helps to put things in perspective. Just 'cuz I haven't hit "that mark" yet (ephasis on the yet, cuz i'mma hit that mark. believe it.) doesnt mean I suck. And the funny thing is, I get that revelation every other week. "OH WAIT, I CAN DRAW!" ....yeaaaaah. You can. Fancy that.

Heh, I just find it funny. Anyway, Back to this post. This is 'Anonymous'. His backstory is interesting. I'll tell it to you the next time I post this guy, which will be when I color him. He's sort of my own tribute to that dude from "Akira" (Tetsuo, was it?). Simple color scheme, with the crimson scarf, white tee with the tattered edges (that I didn't draw this time) and wild-ish hair.....Only, Tetsuo didn't have a set of hyper-jumpin' boots now, did he? The Great Spider War of 1986

My post for the week, last week. I actually have a lot more that I was doing friday and whatnot, but i'll post it tomorrow or something. Technically it was 11:58 when I started composing this message, so it still counts. Heh....

I was walking to class last week, having a nice conversation with God when this one hit me. So, the concept was 'The Great Spider War of 1986'. The vision that sort of hit me was an over-dramatized version of my mild aversion to the eight-legged enemy. So yeah, he's the last soldier on earth (though there's plenty of humans, it feels a lot more dramatic if its the last of something) and he's fighting a seemingly ceaseless battle against the Arachnid forces. Armed to the teeth with the best that the US Gov has to offer (read: guns with bullets), he struggles to liberate man from the grip of the multi-gripping oppressors.

Now granted, most of the spiders he faces are like, an inch or two in diameter, but that wont stop him from fighting for justice. Theres no threat so small that a well placed bullet can't neutralize. There are a few of the massive, walking-tank styled ones, but hopefully our hero will stop freaking out and saying "what the?! ew....." long enough to save us all........ Lets hope.....

Flameman and GK, hangin out

Yeah.... This is a picture and song combo I had wanted to do for the longest time. I had wanted to do this doodle for the longest. For a while now, in my head and outloud, i've been belting out this song, and what i'd do to it if I ever got it alone. Flameman (one of my favorite robot masters) from megaman 6 (one of my favorite megaman games) along with my mix of his song (one of my favorite megaman songs). Yenno, Megaman 6 had some really great music. Its not all the strongest, but its all really interesting. Something about it just gives a totally different feel than its predecessors. Its like a REAAAAL sharp turn after 4 and 5.

So after I got home, after a lovely day at church, celebrating the ressurection of the Savior (woo, easter!), I started on this track. I dont really count it as a mini-mix, because its actually much more finished than that, but I did manage to get it done in portions of an afternoon.

Spring break comes to a close. Had a great week. Between adventures with "The Price is Right" and MVC2 with my homie Spartan (http://www.myspace.com/i52285am), sketchin a little and music listenin' (not much music making from me this week), and watching as HipHop and America battle to the death, there wasn't much of a chance to be bored. But yeah, I was watching medabots today and I decided to do this doodle from my 'Herokid' project (which isn't dead, by the way.)

Medabots....what can I say about that show...where to begin....? Well, for one thing, I have yet to finish watching it all. Up in the Bay Area where I grew up, that show didn't make it to completion. It was kicked off the Fox lineup pretty durn fast. But while it was there, I loved it. It was soooooo high budgetedly animated when it comes to cartoon serieses. It was like the good episodes of naruto, but al the time. Well, I was watching it today, and wanted to show my own kid-and-robot love.

I'm amped, cuz I've finally worked this character out. I still have to solidify the rules for turning him around, but I'm pretty certain this'll be his final look. Very few of you have read through the story for this, but yeah, its not dead.

Doing these downward shots is usually pretty tough for me. I'm pretty sure theres a simple formula or something involving perspective and all its vanishing-pointed goodness, but I have yet to apply.

So why do I keep drawing him with this facial expression? Well, this is the part of the story where he sees "Her" for the first time as she is. He runs into the building and whips his head upward to see her standing on the cieling with her arms crossed like a bat, staring down at him. The light from a stained glass window washes about him, and he realizes they're about to do fisticuffs bigtime.

Yeah, and that element of the image is purposely left out. Maybe I'll add it when I color him.

Wow, its officially the end of the world. For you all at least. Why? Glad you asked:
-I just found out blogspot lets you upload video
-I just found out that vista lets you create video

And so now, I usher in the age of occasional art-music posts. So I create this video just to test it out. It was a doodle I did in MS paint, partnered with a song I made in like, half an hour one day a long time ago. Its a MegaMan 3 Remix. Everyone loves Mega Man 3. If this works out as well as it can, then look forward to every now and again, song+art uploads from me. Woo!

Hey there, web crew:

I have a rather sizely update for this evening. I'm interning at BET, so on friday, I drew almost nonstop. My task for the day was to continue desigining jungle animals, but every so often, I would take a break and draw something that was just my own style, just to stay loose, creative and having fun. So enjoy the following:

I fell in love with this tiger that I sketched. I was gonna pitch him to BET in the hopes that he'd get a spinoff series or something...Yeah? Maybe?

I hadnt sketched a female character for a while, so i decided that i'd draw a girl who'd be able to fit in the universe of another project I came up with ages ago. Right now, her name is up in the air, but I like her short hair.

At school, I began a flash animated project, and so I just did a quick redesign on one of the characters.

I'm totally pitching this to BET. I've got the story all(partially) worked out.

This is for another personal project. You'll see more of it later on.
